If you keep up with the latest indie rock releases, you've probably heard some of the newest and best releases of the year so far. Just in case you're wondering what's good out there, I'd like to share some of the very best for you to enjoy at the moment.
There have been some outstanding new releases during the first month of the year. Let's take a look at a few of the ones that may interest you.
First of all, Vampire Weekend followed up its self titled debut album with Contra, the band's second release. Since their debut CD, the young band from New York has wowed critics with its original sound, so expectations were obviously high for their follow up.
Suffice to say that Contra has lived up to expectations. While it may not be as imminently accessible as the group's first album, a few listens begin to reveal some of the richly layered songs and the level of thought that went into each and every one of them.
Another great album in 2010 is Teen Dream, by Beach House. The group from Baltimore has come through with a new album that builds on the unique sounds established by the group in their past releases.
The best way to describe the sounds of this album would be dreamy, and it should come as no surprise given the name of the CD. This is sure to make some of the best of the year lists that critics throw together come the end of 2010.
Lastly, Owen Pallett has come out with a new album known as Heartland. Critics are loving this CD, as the sounds are intricately layered and truly unique.
You may not recognize Pallett by name, but this is simply due to the fact that he's been forced to change monikers for copyright reasons. His original name was Final Fantasy, which you're most likely more familiar with.
